What is Combed Cotton?

What is Cotton?

Cotton is a soft fluffy natural fiber made from cotton plant seedpods, and it is grown all over the world. The fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable, and durable textile.

 What Is Combed Cotton?

Combed cotton is a softer version of regular cotton. It’s made by further treating the cotton after it’s been picked, then spun into yarn. The combing process removes the impurities and short fibers present in the cotton. After combing, the straightened fibers join together more tightly to become stronger and reduce fraying.  These benefits plus the additional work required to manufacture makes combed cotton more luxurious than regular cotton.

 Benefits to Wearing Combed Cotton

 1) Combed Cotton is Soft and Breathable

Because it doesn't have any impurities or short protruding threads, combed cotton has more softness and breathability than even regular cotton.

 2) Combed Cotton is Stronger than regular cotton

During the Combing process, the short fibers have been removed. This makes the fabric stronger as the long stands have been spun together to create a long tight thread that is less likely to break.

 Conclusion

Combed cotton is the further refinement of regular cotton. The combing of cotton leads to the removal of short fibers and impurities. The end result is that combed cotton is stronger than regular cotton, and at the same time, softer and more breathable. Fine knitted and woven fabrics used in luxurious garments are often made of combed cotton.
